Sopranos: Season 6 (2006)

A nice wrap up of the whole season actually. Will they ever get along?

Overview: As we near the end of the series, more bodies, more troubles and more strife abounds in New Jersey. This season focuses on the tension between the Brooklyn Mob family and our beloved Tony's, with a healthy dose of the Vito's storyline.

Acting: From the very beginning, we start with heavy drama and intense roles, with new and veteran actors alike getting playing even better than before. Vito's a good little actor, but I think the Christopher and Tony plotlines will remain everyone's favorite. What great characters.

Cinematography: The great thing about this is that it isn't typical television. There are several moments of artistic displays and symbolism. "The Sopranos" seems to gather great strength from the dream sequence and right at the beginning we have several of these scenes that explore the more cerebral elements of character, with the camera following suit appropriately. No, HBO won't go for distracting high art, but the quality is all there.

Script: When you've watched a ton of the dramatic series and film that's available out there, you tend to find that from time to time story ideas overlap, and sometimes dialogue may seem rote. While watching this, you can tell where everyone ELSE gets their ideas from. You'd think that this would sound common from time to time, but whether it's fear, intimidation, drama or comedy, it's always great original stuff.

Plot: What a great anti-hero Tony's become. This season starts with death and shootings and goes into a time of high stress and character building for a couple less-included characters, primarily Vito. Without going off and ruining any part of this season, let me just say from episode one it's got you hooked, and it's an exciting dramatic thrill ride right to the end.

Mood: This season may not be as bloody as the last one was, but the stress and tension is far higher. Rather than the comedic styling of the first season, we have here a deeply dramatic show, much like "Six Feet Under", but with the element of a mob family dealing with the everyday, not to mention tension with the neighboring Brooklyn mob to a degree that has never escalated to this point. It's not the end of the season yet, so don't expect grand finales at every turn. This is far more realistic.

You know, this is the first time I've ever really realize how farcical these characters truly are..

Overall Rating: 84% (Marone! This Is Even Better Than Last Season!)

Aftertaste: So here we thought it was the last season of "The Sopranos" and they go and agree to 6 more episodes. We have to wait till next year for them to finish half a season. Such is life I suppose., good things come to those who wait, all that. I was just about to make my predictions based on what's been going on lately, then I remembered how much I hate spoilers, so I won't. Don't you all just love me for that?
